![]() THE POUNDING WATER CRASHES into the abyss below. The rush of a majestic mist rises into the air with each ton of falling water. The mist can be seen some 30 kilometers away, acting as a messenger that reveals the secret of what lies ahead. In 1855, Doctor David Livingstone, upon seeing the Falls for the first time, penned, "Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight." The breathlessness of that statement alone speaks volumes. Standing 111 meters (300 feet) high, in peak season over 9,000,000 liters per second cascade over the rocky cliffs. The sound is exhilarating, the sight is astounding and the experience is breathtaking. The local tribes call it "Mosi-Oa-Tunya", the "Smoke that Thunders!" That is... the VICTORIA FALLS.
